Hungers
There is a hunger of the body
It's easy to assuage.
A loaf of bread, a jug of wine
Some cheese, perhaps a sausage. There is a hunger of the heart
Harder to satisfy
Someone to love, to have, to hold
The heart's need to gratify. There is a hunger of the mind
It never seems content
More knowhow and more data,
Don't even make a dent. But the hunger of the human soul
Cries out sorely in its need
Not bread or facts nor sexual acts
Can this eternal hunger feed.Enid Vien
